The Myobrace System™ is based on
over 20 years of experience in correcting
orthodontic problems without the need for
braces. The Myobrace appliances which
make up this system have the proven dual
function of correcting the oral habits that
cause poor dental development (known as
myofunctional habits), while also providing
light forces to align the teeth into their natural
position. This technique is now used by
Orthodontists and Dentists in more than 100 countries throughout the world.
These appliances are designed to be used in-sequence to effectively train the tongue to position correctly in the upper jaw, retrain the oral musculature and exert light forces to align the teeth.
Myobrace treatment does not involve wearing braces or using complex and uncomfortable dental appliances 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Wearing a Myobrace appliance for one to two hours each day and overnight while sleeping, combined with a series of 'myofunctional exercises' (also known as the Trainer Activities) each day is all that is required in the treatment process. In a small number of cases, fixed braces may be required for a short time to provide optimal alignment.
The Myobrace System differs from other orthodontic forms of treatment as it is not only aimed at straightening the teeth, but is primarily directed at correcting the causes of crooked teeth and underdeveloped jaws. This works best for patients who are still growing, around the ages of six to ten. Effective treatment can be done outside of these ages, but habits become harder to correct in older patients.
The Myobrace treatment goals for best results are:
Correct nasal breathing Lips together at rest.
Correct tongue position.
No lip activity when swallowing.
Good facial development
No braces, retainers, or extractions (if possible)
The Myobrace System appliances
The Myobrace System straightens the teeth and
jaws by teaching the tongue to sit in the correct
position, improving swallowing patterns and
encouraging you to breathe through your nose
The Myobrace is also designed to put light forces
on crooked teeth to straighten them and to create
a wider jaw-form. This not only straightens teeth,
it also improves facial development. This reduces
the need to use braces; and extractions are rarely
Appliances from the Myobrace System incorporate features that correct poor myofunctional habits (Lip bumpers, Tongue Tag), allow for controlled arch expansion(Dynamicore), tooth alignment (Tooth Channels) and provide retention.
The Myobrace appliances must be worn for one to two hours per day and overnight while sleeping.
The Myobrace System is a training process. Just like education and sport, daily commitment and persistence is required to achieve great results. It also depends on the patient's inherent biology to change, so some patients may see rapid results, while others may require more perseverance.
Due to the nature of removable appliances, patient compliance is essential. Patients must understand that the treatment will only progress if daily use is maintained as instructed. If patient motivation is a problem it may be better to use conventional fixed brackets.
The Myobrace System addresses patient compliance and motivation through it's unique educational approach.
The most important aspects of Myobrace Treatment is to motivate and encourage patients to improve their poor oral habits (poor myofunctional habits) that have caused their teeth to be crooked. Here are the three most important steps a patient must follow:
1. Lips together at all times except when speaking.
2. Breathe through the nose - to assist the development of the upper and lower jaws, and to achieve the correct bite.
3. No lip activity when swallowing - to allow the front teeth to develop correctly.
These steps are addressed through educational programs called Trainer Activities (for kids) and Myofunctional Exercises (for adults). These programs consist of a series of activities that re-train the oral muscles and help motivate the patient to improve their overall treatment outcome.

About the Myobrace System
Myobrace treatment time is usually comparable to the time required for treatment with braces, but instead of being fixed to the teeth, Myobrace appliances are removable and require just one to two hours use each day plus overnight while sleeping. Treatment time varies considerably from patient to patient, and so it is important to speak with your practitioner to discuss the time treatment may take.
Generally monthly visits are suggested for the first 6 to 8 months of treatment. Patients will be required to make monthly appointments for the first year of treatment. After this time, it is up to the individual Practitioner to schedule appointment times.
