Developing a Treatment Plan
Case Study 2 - This is another extreme case. These cases, and many others MRC have encountered, disprove the common misconception that myofunctional orthodontics is only suitable for minor correction cases. MRC has its own clinical arm which commonly treats patients that present complex cases. These complex cases do however call for a comprehensive series of appliances.
The main goals of this patient’s treatment were correction of the overbite and also improved arch-form. Improving the arch-form is a crucial step in allowing the tongue to position correctly in the maxilla. Younger patients often require less arch expansion because there’s time for the tongue to do the arch expansion. Older patients, however, frequently require arch expansion.
n order to improve the arch-form and correct the overbite this case used the Bent Wire System™ to expand the arch. The K1™(formally i-2n™) was combined with theBent Wire System™ to improve myofunctional habits and function in combination with the arch expansion that theBWS™ creates.
The K2 ™ (formally i-2®) and T3™(formally Myobrace Regular™) were then used for continued habit correction, arch expansion and tooth alignment. The case is finalised with the T4A™ which settles the bite and also acts as a retainer.
